Dear Senator,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the U.S.-Israel Education Association (USIEA), we are writing to express our profound concern regarding your recent vote to block the sale of critical military equipment to the State of Israel.
As an organization that has spent over a decade educating Members of Congress about the importance of the U.S.-Israel collaboration, we have seen firsthand that American support is not a "handout." It is a vital strategic investment in our own national security.
The recent resolutions to halt the transfer of defensive systems and engineering equipment ignore several critical realities:
Defensive Necessity: These systems, including interceptors for the Iron Dome, are essential for protecting civilians against ballistic threats and persistent rocket fire.
Regional Stability: Israel serves as the primary check against Iranian aggression and terrorist networks. Undermining its Qualitative Military Edge (QME) directly emboldens actors who seek to destabilize the region and threaten American interests.
Economic Partnership: More than 75 percent of security assistance provided to Israel is spent in the United States, supporting high-quality jobs and technological innovation that benefits our own armed forces.
USIEA remains committed to filling information gaps and fostering communication between U.S. and Israeli leaders. We believe that a secure Israel is a prerequisite for any lasting peace or economic prosperity in the Middle East. We urge you to reconsider your position on future security supplemental packages and to honor the long-standing commitment to provide Israel with the tools it needs to defend itself—by itself—against existential threats.
Sincerely,
Dr. Phil Roe
Former Member of Congress
On behalf of the Board of Directors
U.S.-Israel Education Association (USIEA)
